افتراضي Reaction Paper About The Film Les Miserables

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent. Les Misأ©rables is a French historical novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1862, that is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. Les Misأ©rables is also known as The Miserable Ones. The story begins in 1815 in Digne, also known as Digne-les-Bains is a commune of France. The novel follows the lives and interactions of several characters, particularly the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption. It is a humanitarian work that explores society’s mistreatment of the poor especially women and emphasizes the redemptive powers of love and compassion.
The movie focuses on the life of Jean Valjean who was imprisoned because of stealing a bread for his sister, he also but broke his parole. Javert tried to hunt him. But Jean Valjean met a priest who gave him silvers to start a new life & he became the town’s mayor. A grisette named Fantine was very much in love with Fأ©lix, the men abandon her. Fantine must draw on her own resources to care for her and Tholomyأ¨s’ daughter, Cosette. She leaves Cosette in the care of the Thأ©nardiers, a corrupt innkeeper and his selfish, cruel wife. Fantine is unaware that they are abusing her daughter. She is later fired from her job at Jean Valjean’s factory, because of the discovery of her daughter, who was born out of wedlock. In desperation, Fantine sells her hair and two front teeth, and she resorts to prostitution to pay the Thأ©nardiers. Fantine is slowly dying from an unspecified disease Valjean saved Fantine & they went to the hospital until she died. Valjean adopted Cosette and they went to Paris. Javert discovered their place. One day, Marius saw Cosette in the park & they both fell in love at first sight. Eponine is blindly in love with Marius. At Marius’ request, she finds Valjean and Cosette’s house for him and sadly leads him there. Marius watches the house for a few days. He and Cosette then finally meet and declare their love for one another. Marius falls in with a group of radical students and material difficulties increase his unhappiness including the Thأ©nardiers’ eldest son Gavroche, who is a street urchin. Marius and his fellow students nonetheless stand their ground and vow to fight for freedom and democracy. They discover that Javert is a spy, when the army launches its first attack against the students; Eponine throws herself in front of a rifle to save Marius. Then Eponine dies in Marius’s arms. Javert let go Valjean to send Marius to his grandfather. Valjean arrives at the barricade and immediately saves a man’s life. Marius recognizes Valjean at first sight. When Gavroche goes outside the barricade to collect more ammunition from the dead National Guardsmen, he is shot by the troops. Then javert commits suicide by throwing his self into the seine. Marius slowly recovers from his injuries. As he and Cosette make wedding preparations. After the wedding, Valjean confesses to Marius that he is an ex-convict. Marius tries to prevent Cosette to Valjean, but meanwhile Marius realized that Valjean save his life. They hurry up to Valjean, and arrive to find Valjean near death and are reconciled with him. Valjean tells Cosette her mother’s story and name. He dies content and is buried beneath in Pأ¨re Lachaise Cemetery.
The film showed how Women are treated way back then. Fantine being worn down, selling everything she has, referring to her lack of choice because of her desire to help her child, reaching a point of desperation. Fantine also illustrates the plight of single mothers. Fantine struggles to make ends meet to pay for Cossette who lives with the greedy and villanious Thenardiers, at the expense of her own health as she eventually gets ill with tuberculosis. In the character of Fantine the author also shows that that the majority of women does not “choose” it but are forced into it. Sexual slavery and oppression aren’t merely in history books. Women today face poverty, trafficking, domestic abuse, rape, assault.
At first, it is difficult to truly identify any of the characters in this novel. But the diversity of characters and their moral standings is incredible, and to even completely figure out the thought process of one character could take a lifetime of thought. The film is so good and I think that anyone who will watch it will surely love it, I can feel all the emotion and worry as it passes through the minds of each of the characters. The film showed the unequal treatment of the government from the poor and it is based on their class level & how they battled for equality so we’d say that Les Miserables is a relatable film because even up to this day we are still battling for equality, and of course how women became miserable in the past because like equality, women are misjudged and some are not given a chance because of their status in life.
